Since 1995, the KY Partnership in collaboration with the South Central KY AHEC has health a Safety Day at the WKU L.D. Brown Agricultural Exposition Center (WKU Expo Center) in Bowling Green, KY. During the first few years, the event was community based and referred to as a Safety Camp, but the program moved to a school based program over 20 years ago. The fourth Thursday in September is reserved for this educational event for 4th grade students. In recent years over 500 students from Allen, Edmonson and Warren counties are bused to the WKU Expo Center to share in fun and interactive educational experiences. The students rotate through different sessions covering topics such as weather, water, fire, sun tractor, roadway safety, and electric safety.
Based on the number of childhood injuries/fatalities occurring on farms, the Progressive Agricultural Foundation Safety Days® began in 1995, The program is recognized as the largest rural safety and health education programs for children in North America, providing training and resources for local communities to conduct on-day safety and health programs that are age-appropriate, hands-on, fun and safe for children. The KY Partnership for Farm Family Health and Safety, Inc. (The KY Partnership) was one of the original organizations involved in the Progressive Agriculture Safety Day® program.
