A tragic accident on Thursday at an Aiken County horse farm has claimed the life of a 12-year-old Ohio girl, according to Aiken County Coroner Tim Carlton.
Kimberley Grayce Roach, of Amherst, Ohio, died Thursday afternoon after an incident at Paradise Farms in Aiken, according to a news release.
The pasture where Roach was discovered is where her horse, that she just received in the past two weeks, was located, the release said.
There were no eye witnesses during the incident, but her injuries indicate she was most likely not riding the horse at the time, Carlton said.
Carlton said the incident occurred at approximately 1:40 p.m.
On Thursday, Aiken dispatch told the Aiken Standard they received calls that a young girl was possibly kicked in the head or fell from a horse.
Roach was transported to Aiken Regional Medical Centers, where she was later pronounced dead.
An autopsy is scheduled for Friday in Newberry.
“This is just a tragic accident and our (the Aiken Community) hearts go out to the Roach family,” Carlton said in the release.
