A 5-year-old Reno County boy was killed Tuesday evening when his clothing got caught in machinery on a tractor at his family’s farm. Services will be held Saturday morning at the family’s residence.

The Reno County Sheriff’s Office and Haven EMS and fire responded to the call just before 5 p.m. at 916 E. Red Rock Road.

Sheriff Randy Henderson said the family was using an auger to move grain from a grain cart when a couple of children climbed on the tractor powering the equipment. The children were reportedly ordered off the machine because it was dangerous. As the young boy, identified as Adam Schrock, stepped down, he stepped on a lever engaging the tractor’s Power Takeoff or PTO and his pant leg was caught up in it, pulling him into the equipment.

The child was pronounced dead at the scene.

Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday, July 6, at the Leland Schrock residence. Burial will follow at the Yoder Amish Cemetery.
