A child injured while riding on an ATV in Morris has died of his injuries.
The Grundy County Sheriff’s Office reported June 24 that a boy injured in the crash had succumbed to his injuries the day after the wreck.
The incident happened about 11:38 a.m. June 22. Sheriff’s deputies, along with Morris Fire and EMS, responded to the 3800 block of North Dwight Road in Morris after a serious ATV crash was reported.
On the scene, emergency responders found a boy unresponsive and pinned under an overturned ATV. The child was wearing a helmet.
Police, fire and EMS workers worked to free the child, who was then taken to Morris Hospital. Because of the seriousness of his injuries, the boy was immediately airlifted to an area trauma center.
Sheriff’s deputies said the incident occurred on private property. The name of the child had not been released as of June 25.
In a press release June 24, Grundy County Sheriff Ken Briley reminded residents to use caution and practice safe driving when operating ATVs and to always wear a helmet.
